Everyone has seen the ads before. A business will guarantee you perfect credit. (As if your credit history were a joke). Unfortunately, your credit isn’t a joke. And your credit history will not disappear over night, despite what a company may have promised you. There isn’t a quick remedy to your credit repair. It’s something that you’ll have to work on. Your credit repair solution may come in several forms. You may choose to contact a credit repair company. You may not. However, it’s important to know that credit repair companies can’t do any more for you than you can already do for yourself.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) annually warns consumers on credit repair consultation. There have been many allegations and lawsuits with notable credit repair agencies. It seems that many of these companies have made wild statements, like “we’ll repair your credit by erasing negative feedback,” which isn’t a legal option. Be wary of these types of companies. They’re promising you something that is unethical, illegal, and most certainly untrue.

There are several ways you can fall prey to a credit repair scam. Some of the most commonly reported scams are told by consumers who’ve tried “credit by phone” and promotional credit cards. These “guaranteed” credit or cash loan [phone calls] usually end up costing you money, rather than helping you. In addition, promotional credit cards may sound like the promise of a new beginning, but they’re usually not. Avoid calling “900″ and “976″ telephone numbers like the plague! These exchange numbers will rack up some pretty hefty charges on your phone bill. It’s not worth it.

Let’s face it. Time is the only true solution to heal your credit. Look at a copy of your own credit report prior to seeking outside help. If there are any genuine errors which can prove are incorrect, by all means consult a reputable credit agency. They’ll [more than likely] be able to correct your information. While it may cost a few dollars now, it may save you from a lot of financially related headaches in the future.

By: Scott Brown

Do you need help restoring your credit? If you do, then you probably wish you could find a credit repair manual. Is there such a thing? There is… one I recommend to people often times is the Credit Secrets Bible.

But when it comes to bad credit, it’s easy to wonder what-if. When you have bad credit or less than desirable credit, you are often left to wonder what would happen if you did something differently. Where would you be if you learned how to budget or what would be different about your credit life if you could only have better credit? It is worthy of consideration but more than thinking about things, you should learn to act on them and you can do this if you begin to plan ahead.

It’s easy to get side-tracked. If you think you aren’t going to be able to manage your budget or perhaps put one into effect to begin with, then the credit repair manual you want to find probably isn’t going to help you. In order to have excellent credit, it is an ongoing attempt to make sure you look good on paper.

In order to have good credit and to appeal to future creditors, you have to plan ahead. You have to be able to work diligently and try your best to have good credit from the beginning of your adult life. If you aren’t doing what you can to have good credit then it is easy to find yourself without it.

One of the things you must do in order to stay on top of your credit rating is pull your own credit. Yes! You need to pay attention to the things that show up on your credit. You have to know who is pulling your credit and why they’re pulling it. Do you have something that shows on your credit report as delinquent when in fact, it’s been paid off? Do you have something that doesn’t belong on your credit to begin with? These are just a few things to watch for but there are several ways you can improve your rating and your credit history just by becoming aware of the things that are documented on your credit report.

Whether you have good credit or bad credit currently, if you want to get the most out of your credit report and if you want to see to it that you look clean on paper, then you should always take the time to pull your own credit. You need to make the phone calls to clean it up if you find there are outstanding accounts on your credit history that don’t belong there.

When things become a little less than desirable for you and your credit gets you down, that’s not when you begin wishing for a magical credit repair manual. You are proactive beforehand because if you are proactive beforehand, then you can keep your credit in great condition and it is what you need to strive for when building up a good credit life!

By: Dave M Williams

The average credit score across the U.S. is 723. Approximately 58% of Americans have healthy credit scores ranging from 700 to 850. This percentage constitutes 13% having scores from 800 and above, 27% with scores 750 to 799 and 18% with scores from 700 to 749.

But what about the remaining 42% of us? Well, there are those of us who don’t even know what our credit score is and we’re afraid to find out. We’re the people that need credit repair. There are many reasons for taking action to improve your credit. The obvious reason for credit repair is to improve your credit score so you can afford big-ticket items such as a car, furniture, that vacation to Tahiti you’ve been dreaming of or the purchase of a new home. But, what happens when unexpected events occur such as the illness of a loved one, loss of a job, sudden economic downturns, such as the recent stock market crash or loss of employment? In these cases, having immediate access to funds is crucial and if you have little or no savings, where can you turn? You can turn to your available credit. But what if you have bad credit? Then what?

Most of us who need credit repair have obviously lived beyond our means. We have bit off more than we can chew. We’ve spent more than we make and now we owe money to one or more creditors. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We don’t need to stick our head in the sand and do nothing to repair our credit problems. When we ignore the problem, hoping it will go away, all the while, our payments are being attacked by higher interest rates every month and doubling our balances, making our situation worse. It’s never too late to repair your credit and the worst thing you can do when you are in debt is to pretend it doesn’t exist.

There are several ways to begin repairing your credit. One way is to contact your creditors and negotiate a payment plan that will be mutually agreeable to both parties. If you can’t come to a settlement with your creditor then consider seeking assistance from a credit counseling agency. These agencies can help you assess your debt and help you to create a budget that will allow you to begin making payments against your debt that is more affordable to you.

However, be aware that there are many fraudulent companies out there claiming they can remove bankruptcies and other bad information from your credit report. These companies charge fees upfront and also charge hidden fees that can cause you to fall deeper into debt. Do your research. Even if the agency says they are non-profit, don’t immediately trust anyone. Get online and search for reputable credit repair services or ask your friends and family to refer you to a good source of credit counseling. Once you find a service you think is trustworthy, check them against the Better Business Bureau, the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and your District Attorney’s office.

Also, when re-building your credit, remember that the most important factor to focus on is the ratio of your account balances to your credit limits. A good policy when utilizing credit is to use only 30% of your available credit and if you need more credit, apply for another credit card, maintaining the same rule. This way you won’t max out one card, which causes you to get in too deep. The second most important factor is making your payments on time, proving to the credit companies that you are a trustworthy borrower who can pay off their debts.

For more information concerning credit repair, visit the following websites: myfico.com and ftc.gov. They have a plethora of information on credit and will be a good starting place on your journey to credit repair. Begin today to repair your credit. Fixing your credit doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to repair it. But, if you stay vigilant in your quest for repair, you credit report may come up smelling like roses.

By: Jill Mohler
