MANNING VALLEY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE MONITORING COMMITTEE
TERMS OF REFERENCE
Objectives:
- To develop and maintain liaison between the various groups in the community who are involved in matters of domestic violence (DV).
- To work towards cooperation and understanding between the Police, other Govt. agencies and the community of the issues and dangers associated with DV.
- To create an awareness of the provisions of Crimes Act (relating to DV) and to keep the community informed of the various agencies set up to assist those affected by DV.
- To monitor the enforcement and effectiveness of the DV legislation and associated policies (eg. Housing) at a local level.
- To investigate the need for and advocate for the establishment of follow up services for the victims of DV, that promote safety and long term recovery.
- To consult with and make recommendations to the current relevant NSW DV bodies regarding changes to legislation, policy and service provision. This can be done through the Violence Against Women Specialist for the Areas.
- To promote recognition of DV as a crime and through on-going education, encourage the whole community to accept responsibility for, and take positive steps to reduce and prevent incidents of DV.
- To provide a forum for information exchange, regarding issues of DV that affect the local and wider community.
- To provide support for persons working with victims of DV.
Composition:: Government and Non-Government agencies eg. Courts, Police and Community Health, as well as members of the community.
Chair:: An individual who is elected annually.
Secretary: An individual who is elected annually.
Treasurer: From auspicing body.
Frequency: Monthly.
Quorum: 6 with at least 3 agencies present.
Agenda: To be sent out with minutes.
Minutes:: To be attended by volunteers at meetings and sent to secretary for typing and circulated to all agencies and community members on the mailing list at least one week before next meeting.
